A hackathon is an event in which computer programmers, graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others domain experts collaborate intensively on programming projects. The goal of a hackathon is to create functioning software or hardware by the end of the event, which can last from several hours to several days. Participants suggest ideas and form teams, based on individual interests and skills.

Hackathons tend to have a specific focus, which can include the programming language used, the operating system, or an application.  Participants suggest ideas and form teams, based on individual interests and skills.
